Venus & Cupid Cross-Bay Walk 2020: POSTPONED till End of August

Welcome to the Venus & Cupid Arts Trust Cross-Bay Walk 2020.

The walk originally scheduled for Sunday 3rd May has been postponed to the last weekend of August.

Precise date (29th or 30th) and timings are yet to be finalised.

Start:  Arnside

Finish:  Kent’s Bank

The walk starts at Arnside Promenade, crossing the sands to Kent’s Bank, 2 miles west of Grange-over-Sands.  It is about 8-10 miles long and generally takes 3 to 4 hours.  Most of the terrain is sandy, but there are soft, muddy spots, and one or two of the main channels can be up to thigh-deep in water.

Costs

The basic charge is £12 per adult, £9 for children 16-17, £7 for children under 16 years. *

Discounts for parties of three or more people, all booked and paid for as a single party:

Adult: £10.     16-17 years: £7.   Child (11-15): £5. (max. 2 children under 16 per adult, see note below *)

Transport

  •  We will run a return coach from Kents Bank to Arnside, Carnforth and Morecambe. Fare £5 per head.
  •  Northern Rail regular train service Kents Bank to Grange, Arnside, Silverdale, Carnforth and Lancaster – can be crowded !

In case the Coronavirus outbreak leads to further postponement, we are NOT accepting payment until we are sure that the event will take place on the date announced.

All you need to do right now is to register your interest, as detailed below.  We shall send an email asking for payment as soon as we know that the event will definitely take place.

Registration

Registration will take place between 12.45 and 13.45 on Arnside Promenade, so that the walk can begin promptly at 14.00.  Please check this web page the day before the Walk, in case of any last minute changes.

Either A:  Via Paypal (see under Tickets at the bottom of this page).  Please first ensure that you have sent us Page 1 of the Booking Form: otherwise we will not know who it is who has paid !

In Paypal you need to book each category of Walker (adult/child/etc) separately – see note § below. Please add the Paypal reference to your booking form.

Or B:   Send a cheque payable to the Venus & Cupid Arts Trust along with Page 1 of the Booking Form to Peter Brown at 336 Marine Road Central, Morecambe LA4 5AB.  We shall confirm receipt by email.

Or C:   Cash payments on the day: we prefer walkers to pay in advance, but you may pay Cash on the day (subject to availability of places).  Please bring the filled in form (both pages) with you.  No discounts in this case !  And, sorry, we cannot accept credit or debit cards.

Cancellation Policy

The organisers, Guide-Over-Sands Trust, advise that “it is sometimes necessary to cancel a walk at short notice if the guide, at his sole discretion, considers conditions out on the Bay to be dangerous. Whenever possible the guide will arrange an alternative route which necessities a different starting and/or finishing point”.

In the unlikely event of the walk being cancelled, persons booking will be entitled to transfer their booking(s) to an alternative date, if available, or of requesting full reimbursement of moneys paid.  Beyond reimbursement of moneys actually paid, the Venus & Cupid Arts Trust  shall not be liable for any further costs incurred by persons who have booked a place or places on the Walk.

Notes

*  The organisers stipulate that “the walk is not suitable for children under eleven years old unless they are used to reasonably strenuous walks”.  They add that under 16’s should be accompanied by a responsible adult.  In this respect we ask that there be at least one adult for every two children in each party, as there are potential dangers if children should stray from the specified route.

Please note that the information below on Paypal is for future use, once we have confirmation that the walk will definitely go ahead.

you need to book each category of Walker (adult/child/etc, also coach seats) separately.  Then use “CONTINUE SHOPPING” to enter the second category, and so on.

Train times to Arnside:

Lancaster dep. .., Carnforth ….., Silverdale ….., Arnside arr. ……  Connection at Carnforth from the Bentham line and Leeds.

Barrow dep. ….., Ulverston ….., Kent’s Bank ….., Grange ….., Arnside arr. …..

After the walk:  Trains leave Kents Bank at ….. for Grange, Arnside, Silverdale, Carnforth and Lancaster.  The …..  trains connect with trains to Leeds.

And from Kent’s Bank trains at …..  for Ulverston and Barrow.

BUT please check with Northern Rail the day before because, as there have been weekend cancellations!
